Hoy, en el Día Europeo de las Lenguas, es bueno reflexionar sobre la importancia del aprendizaje de las lenguas. 

Aprender una lengua no solo es importante para viajar y comunicarnos, también nos ayuda a comprender y entender otras culturas y tradiciones que son diferentes de las nuestras, haciéndonos, a la vez, más tolerantes.

EDL's international "happy birthday" videos

Since 2002, it has been the goal of the European Day of Languages to promote and enhance Europe's rich linguistic diversity. This year, to commemorate the EDL’s 20th anniversary and to celebrate multilingualism, the European Centre for Modern Languages invited everyone to participate in an EDL international happy birthday video.

With over 570 entries it proved very challenging to make a ‘director’s cut’ and select just over 20 from the diverse range of excellent videos. We would like to thank all the contributors for their creative talents.

European Day of Languages 2021: 20 years celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity

The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are:

1. Alerting the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learnt in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding;
2. Promoting the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe, which must be preserved and fostered;
3. Encouraging lifelong language learning in and out of school, whether for study purposes, for professional needs, for purposes of mobility or for pleasure and exchanges.
